Find A New Way Forwards

Climbing Out empowers people who have been through a life-changing trauma, to take control of their own mindset, actions and behaviours. We do that through our fully funded 5 day mental resilience programmes, which combine outdoor activities and personal development coaching in a setting where long-term supportive friendships can be formed.

"Climbing Out has shown me that anything can be achieved - thank you for pressing the play button and taking my life off hold”
-Claire

Climbing Out Introduction

What we do

The 5 day residential programmes combine outdoor activities, with mental resilience coaching, where participants can build a long term network of friendships and support.

This gives participants the tools to manage themselves, helping them to deal with not just what’s happened in the past or what they’re going through right now, but also any challenges they may face in the future. This is empowering.

The environment we create develops a trust and rapport with participants that allows us to challenge perspectives and mindsets that may be holding people back in life.

Climbing Out is passionate about empowering people to manage their own mental wellbeing, take responsibility for their lives moving forwards and fulfil their potential. Most importantly, we believe this gives participants the opportunity to be happy.

“You should know that you’ve changed my life. I now have the tools and skills necessary to progress so much further than I thought I could”
-Verity

Who We Support

Who We Support

Adults aged 18 or over who have had their life derailed by a life-changing injury, illness or trauma and who want to learn tools and techniques to help them take ownership of their life.

We try to be as inclusive as possible, but there are some individuals for whom the way we work is not appropriate. These include those with conditions from birth, those with mental illness not caused by a traumatic event, and those with ‘active’ and addictive drug or alcohol use.

“Climbing Out has genuinely changed my life from my treatment to moving onward. It has shown me that I’m still capable to do things I never thought I could. You’ve really helped to show me how life can be again”
-Nic

Meet the Founder:
Kelda Wood MBE

When Kelda sustained an irreparable leg injury in 2002 she lost confidence, direction and motivation. She took on challenges to create goals, and went on to represent GB in Paracanoe, summitted Aconcagua the highest mountain in South America and became the first para rower to solo row the Atlantic.

She realised that pushing her comfort zone, setting goals and surrounding herself with people that motivated her, gave Kelda her life back. In 2010 she launched Climbing Out so she could help other people who have been through life changing trauma or illness to help them see a new way forwards and live life to the full again.

“I now have life goals - with all the skills I need to achieve them. If I had to sum up this programme in two words they would be ‘life changing’!”
-Kevin

“After I got sick, I spent 16 months learning to be a patient. Then I spent 5 days with Climbing Out learning how to be me”
-Zak
